In a bid to promote quality consciousness and empower consumers at the grassroots level, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Haryana Branch Office, in collaboration with Adarsh Mahila Mandal (NGO), organized a Consumer Awareness Program at Village Nangal Khedi, Panipat.
The program, held on 3rd July 2025, saw enthusiastic participation from local women, including members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Anganwadi and ASHA workers, and homemakers. The session was conducted by Arti Chaudhary, Standards Promotion Officer, BIS Haryana Branch, who led an engaging and informative interaction.
Chaudhary introduced the role of BIS in setting quality standards and highlighted the significance of certification marks like ISI and CRS. Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing their familiarity with these marks on household and electronic products.
A key focus of the session was the Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) system for gold jewellery. Many attendees learned about the three essential components of BIS hallmarked jewellery — the BIS logo, purity/fineness mark, and jeweller’s identification mark — for the first time, and pledged to verify these marks during future purchases.
The program also included a live demonstration of the BIS Care App and BIS website, helping participants understand how to verify certified products, lodge complaints, and access consumer information digitally.
The session concluded with positive feedback, as participants appreciated the initiative for enhancing their awareness about consumer rights, standardization, and product safety. Gratitude was extended to BIS and Adarsh Mahila Mandal for bringing such a valuable awareness program to their village.
