By honoring Jagdish Tytler, the prime accused in the 1984 Sikh massacre, on Independence Day, Congress has once again revealed its hatred towards Sikhs and rubbed salt into their wounds. This is an insult to the community that cannot be condemned enough, said BJP spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal.
Baliawal said that while the entire nation was remembering the martyrs of India’s freedom struggle, on the very same day, Congress invited Jagdish Tytler—accused of leading the 1984 Sikh massacre—to its office, and photographs of the event were proudly shared by Shri Rahul Gandhi himself. The question arises – what was Congress’ purpose in honoring a killer who openly led the massacre of Sikhs? A national spokesperson of Congress even went to the extent of giving Tytler a “clean chit” on social media by saying that since he has not been punished yet, he must be innocent. Does that really mean he is blameless?
Baliawal added that Members of Parliament from Punjab were also present at the occasion, which clearly shows their silent approval of Tytler’s presence. He said that on one hand, the Modi government at the Centre ensured punishment for Sikh killers by reopening cases through a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which led to the conviction of leaders like Sajjan Kumar. On the other hand, Congress continues to honor these killers. He further said that Jagdish Tytler’s turn to face justice will come soon as well.
Baliawal also pointed out that the silence of Punjab Congress MPs on this issue proves that they merely pretend to be supporters of Sikhs, while in reality, they have no sympathy for the Sikh community.
