Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), a Vedanta Power company and North India’s largest private thermal power producer with 1980 MW capacity, will plant 20,000+ saplings as part of 76th District-Level Van Maha Utsav in Mansa, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development in the region.
The highlight of Van Maha Utsav was the launch of a major plantation drive by District Administration of Mansa, in collaboration with the Department of Forests, Punjab. Under this, aims to plant over 3.5 lakh saplings across the district this year, making it one of the region’s largest green campaigns.
The plantation drive was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Mansa, Kulwant Singh (IAS),Divisional Forest Officer Pawan Shridhar and Senior Superintendent of Police Bhagirath Meena (IPS), along with other senior officials from various departments. With its 20,000-tree contribution, TSPL emerged as a key partner in the green initiative, earning recognition from officials for its sustained efforts to expand the district’s green cover.
Over the years, TSPL has emerged as one of the region’s most impactful corporate contributors to environmental protection. The company has developed a green belt of more than 800 acres within its plant premises, home to over eight lakh trees. This extensive afforestation effort has helped increase Mansa’s Forest cover by over 84 percent, as per district estimates. In 2015, TSPL set a Guinness World Record by planting over two lakh saplings in under one hour, a milestone that remains a symbol of its commitment to environmental action.
Beyond plantation, TSPL is tackling stubble burning, a major environmental challenge in Punjab and neighbouring states. Last year, it procured over eight lakh tonnes of crop residue through its strategic business partners, converting it into torrefied bio-pellets for co-firing at its plant, thus providing a cleaner alternative to coal and cutting carbon emissions.
As part of its strengthened sustainability roadmap, TSPL has introduced electric vehicles into its fleet to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. With continued efforts in afforestation, clean energy transition, and waste-to-energy innovations, the company delivered a measurable climate impact by reducing 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions during FY 2024–25.
The plantation drive, launched to commemorate the 350th year of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom, is both a tribute to history and a step toward long-term ecological growth in Mansa, home to TSPL’s plant. With TSPL’s support, the district is steadily advancing on its path to becoming one of Punjab’s greener, more sustainable regions.
