YPS, Patiala takes initiative to promote Punjabi- launches its first-ever inter-school Punjabi debate competition

In a significant step towards promoting the Punjabi language and celebrating its rich cultural heritage, Yadavindra Public School, Patiala successfully hosted its first-ever Inter-School Punjabi Debate Competition on 8–9 May 2026. This inaugural initiative marks an important beginning in strengthening students’ bond with their mother tongue and encouraging intellectual discourse in Punjabi.
The two-day event brought together enthusiastic participation from students representing five different schools of the region.
The competition commenced on 8 May with the inauguration ceremony, graced by the Headmaster, Navin Kumar Dixit, as the Chief Guest. The day featured quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
The second day featured the hardliner rounds followed by the final debates. The Chief Guest for the concluding day was Satish Kumar Verma, a renowned Punjabi writer, playwright, theatre director and academician. The final round witnessed a closely contested debate, the team from Mohali emerged as the winner, while YPS Patiala secured the second position.

The event, however, was primarily celebrated for its pioneering effort to promote Punjabi language through structured inter-school debate.
Speaking about the occasion, the headmaster highlighted that the school remains deeply committed not only to academic excellence but also to the preservation and promotion of Punjabi language and culture. He congratulated the winners and presented souvenirs to the esteemed guests.
