Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary affairs Dr. L. Murugan held a press conference at the Canal Rest House in Rupnagar today. On this occasion, he shared a detailed account of his visit to Rupnagar district and expressed serious concern over the current situation in Punjab.

Dr. Murugan informed that during his visit, he visited villages Shahpur Bela, Hariwal, Bela Dhyani and Nangal. He personally inspected the damage caused by the recent floods in all these villages and directly communicated with the affected people. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the entire cabinet of the Central Government are concerned about Punjab and stand with the people of Punjab in this difficult time.

The minister said, “Modi ji is always concerned about Punjab. Whenever there is a disaster or problem, he first asks about Punjab and the people of Punjab. It is the duty of the central government to help Punjab, and we are fulfilling this responsibility with full sincerity.”

Responding to questions from reporters, Dr Murugan also questioned the Punjab Chief Minister. He said that when the people of Punjab were battling floods, the Chief Minister was busy touring Tamil Nadu and other states instead of being present in the state. He called it unfortunate and said that at such a time the state government should have been among the people.

He made it clear that the BJP will not leave the people of Punjab alone. “The BJP will become the voice of Punjab, no matter where the government is. Every worker of our party is committed to help the people by reaching every village here.”

During the press conference, the minister also discussed another serious issue. He said that during his visit, people of many villages have given him complaints about illegal mining. He said that this problem has been persisting in the area for a long time and is causing troubles to the people. He said that BJP District President Ajayveer Singh Lalpura has already sent a report on this subject to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He assured that the Central Government will seriously consider this and take necessary steps.
