Strengthening One Health: AIIMS Bathinda Sensitizes Farmers at PAU Kisan Mela

The One Health Team from AIIMS Bathinda participated in the Kisan Mela organized by Punjab Agricultural University, Bathinda, which brought together farmers, agriculturists, and veterinary professionals from across Punjab.

During the event, an interactive awareness session was conducted focusing on the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases, the crucial role of farmers in disease prevention, and essential do’s and don’ts during floods. The session emphasized safe animal handling practices, regular vaccination, hygienic livestock management, and the importance of early reporting of sick animals to prevent the spread of diseases.

On this occasion, the team also introduced the NIVARAN Zoonotic Helpline, a dedicated teleconsultancy platform to provide timely guidance regarding zoonotic diseases in humans. This initiative aims to strengthen disease surveillance, improve rapid response, and foster collaboration between farmers, veterinarians, and public health professionals.

The activities were organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Gupta, Executive Director, and Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Kakkar, One Health Nodal Officer. The One Health Team – Dr. Gursimran, Akash Sharma, and Varinder delivered lectures to sensitize attendees about zoonoses and preventive measures.

The event highlighted farmers as frontline partners in the One Health approach, ensuring better disease prevention, safe food production, and healthier communities. The activity received an enthusiastic response, reinforcing the shared commitment to safeguard human, animal, and environmental health.
