A drawing teacher in Himachal Pradesh has been suspended after a cheque he wrote was riddled with spelling errors. Ironically, the suspension order handed to him also contained multiple mistakes.
Atter Singh, posted at Government Senior Secondary School, Ronhat in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, made spelling mistakes while writing a a cheque for ₹7,616 on September 25, 2025. In words, he wrote: “Saven Thursday Six–Harendra Sixty.”
On October 4, 2025, Singh was suspended and informed that his “headquarters is fixed at Govt Sec School, Haripurdhar, in Sirmaur district during the suspension.”
However, the suspension order itself turned into an embarrassment for the authorities. Among the errors: “Principal” was spelt as “Princpal,” “Sirmaur” as “Sirmour,” “spellings” as “spelling,” and “education” as “educatioin,”
According to The Indian Express report, the official said “There was a time constraint. We issued the notice in haste. I admit the mistakes. But these are spelling and typing errors. I will find out how these mistakes crept in.”
The incident comes less than a month after Himachal Pradesh was declared a fully literate state on International Literacy Day (September 8), becoming the fifth region after Tripura, Mizoram, Goa, and Ladakh to enter the “literacy elite club.”
