Punjab Wheat Shock: Officers Suspended as 37,433 Bags Go Missing

The Punjab government has suspended two Assistant Food and Supply Officers (AFSOs) and an Inspector, while also chargesheeting a District Food and Supplies Officer (DFSC) and a Food Safety Officer (FSO) in connection with the shortage of 37,433 bags of wheat from PUNGRAIN-hired private godowns.

The action, ordered by Principal Secretary Rahul Tiwari on October 6, 2025, follows inspections at TR Agro Foods and Beverages LLP and Sachdeva Ice Mills, where the shortage was detected.

The officials suspended with immediate effect and chargesheeted are AFSOs Samarjit Singh and Shama Goyal besides Inspector Yograj Singh, while those chargesheeted are DFSC Himanshu Kukkar, and FSO Raj Rishi Mehra.

Meanwhile, the department has directed all district controllers to conduct physical verification of wheat stocks across Punjab.
