Rotary Club Rupnagar honours sports personalities
Bahadurjeet Singh/royalpatiala.in News/ Rupnagar,November 2,2025 In a simple but impressive function held at Rotary Vocational Training Centre (RVTC), National Unity Day was celebrated by honoring sports personalities of the region by Rotary Club Rupnagar Chief Guest of this function was Gulneet Singh Khurana,, SSP Rupnagar.
Club President Rotarian Sudhir Sharma welcomed the Chief Guest, Awardee’s & their relatives at this occasion. He also explained the significance of National Unity Day in his address. Chairman of this event was Rotarian Surjit Singh Sandhu, Retired Deputy Director sports of Punjab Government. Co Chairman & moderator of the function was Past President Dr JK Sharma, who read out the profiles of all awardees, highlighting their sports & professional achievements.
The athletes honored at this occasion are Himanshi Kaushal from Kharar, a player of Roller Hockey who had the honor of representing Team India at the Asian Roller Skating Championship 2025 held in South Korea. She is goalkeeper of the team and contributed to winning the Gold Medal for the country & Jujhar Singh also known as Tiger, a wrestler from Shri Chamkaur Sahib, who recently won the world Power Slap championship held in Abu Dhabi UAE on 24 th October 2025. He is the first Indian and Punjabi who has won the title of World Champion in three sports of Mixed Martial Arts.
Apart from athletes, Jagjiwan Singh Gill, District Sports Officer of Rupnage also honored at this occasion for his dedication to promote sports activities & develop infrastructure at Rupnagar. As a sports, he has won 28 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals in Kayaking and Canoeing. He Represented India 7 times in international competitions. Within a short span of his tenure, extensive renovation and modernization of sports infrastructure has been made so far, specially installation of floodlights has enabled evening practice sessions, marking a significant step toward developing a vibrant sports culture in Ropar district.
Speaking on the occasion, Past Rotary Governor & noted Social Activist Dr R S Parmar put light on the rotary International & towards Rotary Club Rupnagar. He also put light on the past of sports activities in Rupnagar & specially congratulated Rotarian Surjit Singh Sandhu for his contribution in promoting sports in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest congratulated all awardee’s & appreciated the club’s vision to honor sports person to motivate other young personalities of the area. He also appreciated the work of DSO & Sandhu.
Khurana was also made honorary member of the club & as per rotary norms, Rotary Pin was presented by Club leadership.
Vote of thanks were presented by Past President Rotarian D S Deol. Apart from others, Past Rotary Governor Chetan Aggarwal, AG of Zone 7 Rotarian Gurpreet Singh, Club Seretary Rotarian Dr Ankur wahi, galaxy of Past Presidents & Rotary Members were present at this occasion.
