JGND Punjab State Open University observes Constitution Day

The School of Law and Interdisciplinary Studies in collaboration with School of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (SSLA), JGND Punjab State Open University organized webinar on Constitution Day  under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, Vice-Chancellor. Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh said, “Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) marks the historic adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949.Duties and rights are correlative. Citizens must uphold ideals of the founding fathers of the nation and discharge duties for peace and harmony.”He reiterated that citizens must always set precedent by performing fundamental duties.

Dr. Varinder Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Law, Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus Jalandhar said, “It is a unique document that guides the destiny of the Centre as also of the States of the Indian Union, a mixture of federalism  and Unitarianism, while incorporating flexibility and rigidity at the same time.” Dr. Manjit Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar observed, “Duty is sense of moral obligation which enables conduct.” He explained duty as volitional expression of conscience that could be understood in cultural context.
