Two days Poetry Festival at Punjabi University, eminent poets from abroad, parts of India gracing the occasion

Punjabi University, Patiala will be drenched in the colours of poetry for two consecutive days during the first week of December. On 2nd and 3rd December, internationally acclaimed poets will present their verses on the University campus.

The second edition of the ‘Chair Poetry Sangat International Poetry Festival’ is being jointly organised by the Department of Punjabi, Punjabi University; Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC); Sangat Punjab; Chair Poetry Evenings Kolkata; and the Department of Languages, Government of Punjab.

Eminent poets participating in the festival include Mélanie Leblanc (France), Kira Wuck (Netherlands), Tenzin Tsundue (Tibet), and Kewal Binabi (Nepal). From various states of India, the distinguished participants are Sonnet Mondal (Kolkata), Sarabjit Garcha (New Delhi), Priyamvada Singh Ilhan (Rajasthan), Robin S Ngangom (Shillong), P. Raman (Kochi), Rakesh Ranjan (Patna), Anshuman Kar (Kolkata), Nirmala Putul Murmu (Jharkhand), Chandra Prakash Deval (Rajasthan), Adnan Kafeel Darvesh (Delhi), Mukesh Alam (Ludhiana), Pal Kaur (Ambala), Gurtej Koharwala (Firozpur), Bipanpreet (Amritsar), Gurpreet (Mansa), Ambrish (Amritsar), Ajitpal Jattana (Moga), Anu Bala (Anandpur Sahib), Neetu (Bathinda), Raman Sandhu (Chandigarh), Narinderpal Kaur (Patiala), Kamalpreet Singh (Amritsar), Santokh Singh Sukhi (Patiala), Sukhdev Matharu (Malout), and Sukhwinder Sukhi (Patiala).

Dr Rajwant Kaur Punjabi, Head of the Department of Punjabi; Daljit Ami, Director, EMRC; Jasvant Zafar, Director, Department of Languages, Government of Punjab and Festival Director Sahajmeet shared that on 2nd December the opening session titled ‘Poetry in the Streets’ will begin at 6:00 pm in front of the Punjabi Department (Arts Block-5), while on 3rd December the programme will start at 11:00 am in the Science Auditorium.

All poets will recite their original compositions in their respective mother tongues, creating a uniquely multilingual poetic atmosphere. Expert translations in English and Punjabi will be provided simultaneously for the convenience of the audience. The festival also facilitates informal interactions between the visiting poets, students, and poetry lovers, offering a rare opportunity for meaningful exchange.
