CBI arrests Lt Colonel with Dept of Defence Production in bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested Lt. Col Deepak Kumar Sharma, a Deputy Planning Officer (International Cooperation and Exports) with the Department of Defence Productions under Ministry of Defence along with Vinod Kumar on graft charges.

The arrests followed the registration of a case by the CBI on December 19, 2025, after the agency received credible inputs regarding illegal activities involving government officials and private firms operating in the defence sector.

According to investigators, Sharma allegedly demanded and accepted bribes in exchange for extending undue favours to certain companies engaged in defence manufacturing and exports.

CBI officials said Sharma was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a Bengaluru-based company. The firm’s Indian operations were reportedly managed by Rajiv Yadav and Ravjit Singh, who were allegedly in regular contact with Sharma to secure illegal advantages.

During searches conducted at multiple locations, including Sharma’s residence in Delhi, the agency recovered Rs 2.2 crore in cash, in addition to the Rs 3 lakh bribe amount whileRs 10 lakh was seized from the residence of Sharma’s wife, Colonel Kajal Bali, in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.

“The above acts of obtaining undue advantage by Lt. Col. Deepak Kumar Sharma and Col. Kajal Bali in connivance with private parties disclose commission of cognizable offence punishable under sections 7, 7A, 8, 9 & 10 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and section 61(2) of BNS, 2023. Hence, a regular case is registered and entrusted to Shri Govind Shah Meena, Dy.SP, CBI, AC-II, New Delhi for investigation”, the FIR stated.
