PGIMER Reinforces Commitment to Patient Safety Through Two-Day Capacity Building Programme on ‘Safe Hospitals’ at Sangrur

“Patient safety is the foundation of quality healthcare. Building resilient hospitals demands continuous training, emergency preparedness, and a shared culture of responsibility among healthcare professionals to ensure safe, ethical, and patient-centric care,” stated Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh , while addressing participants as the Special Guest at the two-day Capacity Building Programme on ‘Safe Hospitals – Empowering Healthcare Workers’, organised at the PGIMER Satellite Centre, Sangrur, today.
Reaffirming its leadership in patient safety and healthcare preparedness, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, successfully organised the two-day programme on January 16 and 17, 2026, at the Conference Room, Hospital Block, PGIMER Satellite Centre, Sangrur. The programme aimed to strengthen hospital safety frameworks and enhance the knowledge, skills, and emergency preparedness of healthcare professionals, with a focused emphasis on delivering safe, resilient, and patient-centric healthcare services.
Accredited with four credit hours by the Punjab Medical Council, the programme underscored PGIMER’s commitment to academic excellence and continuous professional development. Expert deliberations were delivered by eminent faculty from PGIMER, Chandigarh, including specialists from the Departments of Hospital Administration and Medical Microbiology, who shared evidence-based practices and strategic insights to reinforce hospital safety systems.
The academic sessions comprehensively covered critical domains such as safe hospital practices and disaster management, patient and fire safety, teamwork and work ethics, effective communication, prevention of workplace violence, legal aspects in healthcare, infection prevention and control, medication safety, reduction of medical errors, and fostering a sustainable culture of safety within healthcare institutions.
The programme witnessed active participation from over 100 delegates representing reputed institutions including Government Medical College, Faridkot; TMC Sangrur; IMA Sangrur; Civil Hospital, Sangrur, and other leading healthcare facilities, facilitating meaningful knowledge exchange and inter-institutional collaboration.
Highlighting the operational importance of hospital safety, Prof. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER, Chandigarh , stated, “Safe hospitals are built not merely through infrastructure, but through robust systems, trained manpower, and strict adherence to safety protocols. Capacity building of healthcare workers is central to minimising risks, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring uninterrupted healthcare delivery, especially during emergencies.”
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sruti Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMER Satellite Centre, Sangrur, who noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in empowering healthcare workers with the confidence and competencies required to strengthen hospital safety and quality care.
