Following BJP secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa’s statement on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Punjab visit, a report titled “Change in PM Modi’s Punjab visit?” published by royalpatiala.in sparked a furore within saffron party circles.

Later, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa clarified that he had mistakenly mentioned February 2 as the date for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab. “The visit will take place as scheduled on February 1,” according to a statement issued by Sirsa’s office.

Earlier in the morning, after reaching Punjab, Sirsa told the media, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Punjab on February 2. The whole of Punjab is waiting for this. All preparations have been made. The occasion has a special emotional bonding with the Prime Minister.”

Sirsa’s statement led to confusion, as Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Punjab on Sunday, February 1, 2026, to attend Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebrations at Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar, after attending the Budget Session of Parliament earlier in the day.

February 1 marks Guru Ravidas Jayanti, and many followers have already left for Varanasi to celebrate the occasion. Sant Niranjan Dass of Dera Sachkhand Ballan, who oversees religious sites in both Varanasi and Jalandhar, has also gone to Varanasi. However, as per available information, the dera head will accompany Prime Minister Modi to Dera Sachkhand Ballan.

The Prime Minister’s visit will coincide with Guru Ravidas Jayanti. In recent years, Modi has been visiting Seer Govardhan, the birthplace of Guru Ravidas in Varanasi, which falls within his parliamentary constituency. Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar is considered one of the most revered sites of the Ravidassia community in Punjab.

The head of Dera Sachkhand Ballan, Sant Niranjan Dass, has been selected for this year’s Padma Shri award and oversees religious sites in both Varanasi and Jalandhar.
