Today, a prominent group of teachers from the Progressive Teachers’ Front (PTF) visited various departments of Social Sciences at Punjabi University and interacted with faculty members.
During this election campaign, the Front received an overwhelming response from university teachers, who also expressed confidence in ensuring a decisive victory for the Front.
While releasing its election manifesto, the Progressive Teachers’ Front stated that it will struggle at every level to address all issues of teachers and to safeguard their rights.
All members of the PTF strongly opposed the decision to alter the due dates of promotions for both currently serving and previously promoted teachers. The Front also condemned the university administration’s decision to apply new promotion-related guidelines to cases that had already been submitted earlier, and demanded that these guidelines be withdrawn immediately.
The leaders of the Front warned the Vice-Chancellor that any arbitrary decisions or actions regarding promotions, in violation of UGC norms, will not be tolerated.

Key issues highlighted in the PTF manifesto include payment of pending dues of the Seventh Pay Commission and DA, restoration of the past prestige of PUTA, and securing adequate grants for Punjabi University.
The PTF has fielded Dr. Nishan Singh Deol for the post of President, Dr. Gurjeet Singh Bhathal for Vice-President, Dr. Avneetpal Singh for Secretary, and Dr. Amarpreet Singh for Joint Secretary. Additionally, Dr. Jagtar Singh, Dr. Gaurav Gupta, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, and Dr. Charanjit Nohra are contesting for the posts of Executive Members.
