The Progressive Teachers’ Front has strongly condemned the malicious and baseless propaganda being carried out by PTA office-bearers against the presidential candidate, Dr. Nishan Singh Deol. The Front termed this campaign as a desperate and low-level attempt driven by frustration.
In a statement issued after a meeting, PTF Convenor/Co-Convenors Dr. Harvinder Singh Dhaliwal, Dr. Rajinder Chandel, and Dr. Kewal Krishan said that the opposition has sensed its imminent defeat, as it has done little over the past two years except writing letters.
To cover up its failures, the PTA alliance has resorted to negative propaganda instead of addressing the real issues faced by teachers of Punjabi University.
The Progressive Teachers’ Front stated that Dr. Nishan Singh Deol has been consistently fighting for teachers’ rights for a long time. Due to this, the university administration has allegedly tried to implicate him by reopening the same inquiry twice, even though the earlier inquiry did not prove any allegations against him. It is noteworthy that Dr. Deol intends to challenge this inquiry in a court of law.
The PTF advised the opposition to focus on unresolved issues of university teachers rather than indulging in negative campaigning. The Front also alleged that serious inquiries related to grave offenses such as sexual harassment are pending against key members of the opposition.

It cited the PUTA Journal House as an example, where two women teachers and a non-teaching female had made allegations of sexual harassment against former PUTA President Dr. Bhupinder Virk and the Secretary of the PTA alliance.
Dr. Nishan Singh Deol stated that he is not afraid of cases filed by authorities or the malicious propaganda spread by the opposition. He affirmed that he has always fought for teachers’ rights and will continue to do so in the future.
