Punjab second to Rajasthan in drug seizures; Zero recovery at Indian Major Ports in 2025-MHA

Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai has released data in the parliament on drugs seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at major ports, including those in Gujarat and Maharashtra, as well as in 16 bordering states. The data was reported by all Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (DLEAs) to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) over the last three years (2023 to 2025).
As per the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), a strange but documented true that NO drugs were seized in 2025 from major ports, including those in Gujarat and Maharashtra, by any DLEA. The Form-F database shows NIL seizure in respect of NCB and other DLEAs for the year 2025.
However, in 2023, only 1 kg of cocaine was seized by DRI from AV Joshi CFS, Gandhidham, Kachchh, Gujarat. Similarly, in 2024, 94,19,000 Tramadol tablets and 1000 Tramadol injections were recovered by the Customs Department from CFS, Mundra, Gujarat.
On the other hand, a total of 7,66,061 kg of drugs were seized in Rajasthan over three years (2023, 2024, 2025).
Punjab followed Rajasthan, with 2,10,397 kg of drugs seized over three years (2023, 2024, 2025). The highest quantity, 1,16,695 kg, was seized in the year 2025.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that foreign-based elements are involved in facilitating narco-terrorism by pushing narcotics across the border to generate funds for financing terrorist activities in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.
During the year 2025, 292 drones/unmanned aerial vehicles were seized or recovered along the Indo-Pakistan border. A total of 66 fugitives wanted in drug-related cases have been identified. In this regard, 24 Red Notices and 25 Blue Notices have been issued. Further, five fugitives were successfully deported from the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka in 2025.
