Guest Lecture on Women’s Role in India’s Freedom Struggle organized by Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

The Department of History, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized an engaging and insightful guest lecture on the theme “Women in India’s Freedom Struggle: Contributions and Challenges,” aimed at enriching students’ understanding of the vital role played by women in shaping the nation’s history.
The session was delivered by Prof. Manju Malhotra, former Professor of History at Panjab University, who shared valuable insights into the multifaceted contributions of women in India’s freedom movement. She highlighted inspiring accounts of women who actively participated in protests, supported revolutionary activities, mobilized communities, and made significant sacrifices despite prevailing social and cultural constraints.
Presiding over the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh emphasized the importance of such academic initiatives in fostering historical awareness and critical thinking among students. He remarked that the contributions of women in the freedom struggle are profound and deserve greater recognition in mainstream narratives.
The programme was smoothly moderated by Ismiti Sayal, Assistant Professor, Department of History.

The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Incharge of the Department. Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, appreciated the initiative and encouraged the organization of more such academic activities. The programme was attended by the students of B.A. Final and M.A. History, along with faculty members.
