Holistic Home Science: Integrating Developmental Psychology, Nutrition, Aesthetics, Mental Health, Ayurveda, Yoga and Education, edited by Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Education, Chandigarh and Dr. Ravneet Chawla, Associate Professor of Human Development & Family Relations was released today by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, at LokBhawan, Chandigarh.
Inspired by the dynamic vision and mentorship of Prerna Puri, IAS, Education Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, the editors brought out the volume (with an ISBN number 978-93-93086-83-9) which comprises 57 scholarly chapters organised across six interrelated themes—Developmental Psychology, Nutrition, Aesthetics, Mental Health, Ayurveda, Yoga, Textiles and Education—presenting a comprehensive and contemporary perspective on Home Science as an evolving discipline. Moving beyond conventional boundaries, the book highlights the subject’s interdisciplinary strength and its critical role in addressing modern-day challenges of health, well-being, sustainability, and human development.
The book reflects remarkable diversity and depth of topics, ranging from traditional knowledge systems such as millets, Ayurvedic dietary practices, and mindful living, to emerging domains like nutrigenomics, microbiome-based health, sustainable textiles, functional foods, and behavioral sciences. It effectively bridges tradition with modern science, and research with real-life application, positioning Home Science as a dynamic field that integrates knowledge across disciplines.

On the occasion, a special issue of the College Home Science Club Newsletter Jijivisha was also released on the successful culmination of PoshanPakhwada 2026, focusing on the theme “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life.” The newsletter, with PrernaPuri, IAS as Chief Patron, Dr. Sapna Nanda as Chief Editor and Dr. Ravneet Chawla as Editor, features articles by faculty and students on early nutrition, caregiving, and child development.
