Central University of Punjab Organizes Expert Lecture on Value-Based Education

The Department of South and Central Asian Studies, Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, organized an expert lecture on “Value-Based Education.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Rajneesh Arora, Former Vice-Chancellor of IKG Punjab Technical University and Chairman of AICTE’s National Coordination Committee for Induction Program.
During the lecture, Prof. Rajneesh Arora emphasized the urgent need to integrate Universal Human Values (UHV) into higher education to ensure holistic and value-based learning. Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he stated that education should not only focus on professional skills but also on developing full human potential, an equitable society, and national development.
Prof. Arora highlighted that holistic value-based education rests upon three key pillars: Universal Human Values, Indian Knowledge System, and nature-friendly as well as human-friendly skills. He stressed that the use of mother tongue and regional languages plays an important role in strengthening value-based education.
Addressing concerns related to students’ mental health and emotional well-being, Prof. Arora stated that value-based education can help develop emotionally stable, resilient, and purpose-driven youth. He elaborated that education centered on right understanding, healthy relationships, and responsible use of physical resources can lead to mutual happiness, prosperity, and social harmony.
Prof. Arora also shared insights from studies conducted on Universal Human Values, highlighting improvements in academic performance, mental well-being, teamwork, environmental awareness, and interpersonal relationships among students and faculty members. He further discussed AICTE initiatives related to Universal Human Values, including the introduction of a Minor Degree in UHV aimed at nurturing future teachers, policymakers, and professionals committed to humane and value-oriented living.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari highlighted the significance of value-based education in shaping responsible citizens and strengthening the moral fabric of society. He emphasized that education rooted in human values is essential for nurturing socially responsible, compassionate, and ethically conscious individuals capable of contributing positively towards nation-building and global harmony.
Towards the end, Programme Coordinator Prof. Bawa Singh expressed gratitude towards the invited speaker and university authorities for organizing the lecture. He stated that such academic interactions provide meaningful insights into holistic education and inspire students and scholars to adopt value-based approaches in their personal and professional lives.
Prof. Jagmeet Bawa, Prof. Nishitha Kaushaki, and other faculty members of the Department of South and Central Asian Studies attended the programme. Research scholars, and students actively participated in the lecture and engaged in meaningful discussions on the role of human values in education and society.
