Senior Punjab-Cadre IPS officer relieved of additional charge at Centre

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Rajiv Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre and Director General of Police, Manipur, as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat.
He replaces Parag Jain, a 1989-batch Punjab-cadre IPS officer, who had been holding the additional charge since November 12, 2025.
Parag Jain, who is currently serving as Secretary of Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), had also been entrusted with the additional responsibility of Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat.
His name was doing rounds in the administrative, political circles for the post of next secretary, security.
The Secretary (Security) is the administrative head of the Special Protection Group (SPG) that provides security to the prime minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at his official residence.
Rajiv Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, was sent to Manipur on inter-cadre deputation for three years in 2023. He assumed the charge at the peak of ethnic violence in the State in May 2023. The one-year President’s Rule from Feb 13,2025- February 4,2026 . Before his posting as DGP, he was serving as IG, CRPF.
