PSEB Engineers’ Association to CM: Vigilance creating ‘False Narrative’ to divert public attention after technocrats’ arrests

PSEB Engineers’ Association (PSEBEA) condemns targeted attack against a very senior technocrat of the power sector in relation to a 15 years old matter ‘
The Association in a letter to chief minister strongly feels that the arbitrary arrest of a very senior technocrat KD Choudhary, Ex-CMD of PSPCL and Sanjeev Prabhakar Retd Chief Engineer, and the manner in which the proceedings have been handled by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (Economic Offences Wing) do not appear to be part of a fair and impartial inquiry.
“PSEB Engineers’ Association reiterates that in its more than 60 years history, it has never supported any corrupt practices or malpractices by any individual and is a strong supporter of propriety and integrity in public life. The association has always stood for honesty, accountability, and transparency, which remain the fundamental pillars for upholding the credibility and efficiency of the state power sector.” said Jatinder Garg, president PSEBEA.
Ajaypal Singh Atwal General Secretary said that the Association does not stand with any individual found guilty of corruption after a fair inquiry, it cannot remain a silent spectator when senior technocrats are selectively targeted in a motivated manner that demoralises the entire engineering fraternity.
The FIR is highly vague and open-ended, demonstrating that it is completely biased and is lodged with some other motive. Such actions have created fear, uncertainty, and demoralisation amongst officers working in the Power Sector, that will adversely affect the functioning of the utilities.
“The Association has lost faith in the manner in which the vigilance inquiry is being conducted. What useful purpose can the custodial interrogation of a man who has remitted office some 9 years back have? All the records pertaining to the case are available with the Vigilance office. Had the vigilance department been sincere in its working it could have filed the charge sheet in the last 5 years since it received the complaint. The Association believes that the Vigilance wing, which itself has come under serious cloud, is attempting to save its own image by creating a false narrative to divert the attention of the public’ added the spokesperson of the association..
The Association urges that the matter be entrusted to a sitting or retired senior High Court Judge for an independent inquiry so that truth and justice.
An emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association has also been convened to deliberate upon the issue.
The Vigilance Bureau, Economic Offences Wing, Ludhiana, had arrested K.D. Chaudhary former Chief Managing Director, PSPCL, Sanjeev Prabhakar former powercom senior official and Amit Garg Director, M/s Damini Resort and Builders Private Limited, Ludhiana on May 20,2026 . A case has been registered against them in VB Economic Offence Wing Ludhiana following the conclusions of Vigilance Inquiry No. 05, dated 10.05.2021.
