DC launches drive to make Barnala plastic free district

To make Barnala plastic free district, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Tej Partap Singh Phoolka has launched a special drive to distribute eco-friendly cloth bags to replace plastic bags for fetching grocery and other goods from market by the people. While elaborating the information, Deputy Commissioner said that the bags were especially designed by self help groups to fetch vegetables and grocery goods and after purchasing, the urban local bodies will distribute the bags in their respective areas. DC added that besides reducing the use of plastic, the drive would also help to flourish the business of self help groups being run by women in the district.
Deputy Commissioner said that the use of plastic carry bags have also been banned by the government and plastic bags were being used mainly for carrying vegetables and other goods from the market. He said that as now the administration has decided to provide the alternate option to the district residents, they would surely reduce the use of plastic for this particular purpose. He added that once the habit of using eco-friendly bags will be adopted by the district residents, it would surely help to make the district plastic free.
DC said that plastic bags are becoming major cause of pollution and these eco-friendly cloth bags are aimed to provide people healthier alternative to plastic along with wiping off plastic pollution. He called upon the residents of Barnala district to start using these bags to save the environment.
On this occasion, ADC Ruhee Dugg, XEN NK Aggarwal, EO Barnala Satish Kumar, EO Tapa Manpreet Singh Sidhu, Kamaldeep Singh, Amandeep Singh and other staff of local bodies was also present.
