Khalsa College Patiala organised ‘Safar-e-Shahadat’ to commemorate the peerless martyrdom of small Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji in which Gobind Singh Longowal, President, Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib was the chief guest.
Surjeet Singh Rakhra, former minister of Punjab, Indermohan Singh Bajaj, Honorary Secretary of Khalsa College, Patiala, and Dr. Sarabjinder Singh, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala were the guests of honour.
While addressing on this occasion Gobind Singh Longowal said that Sikhs should have a pride on their rich history and its culture. He further said that Sikh history is full of sacrifices and martyrdom’s. We must remember them and salute them for their sacrifices made for the sake of religion. It is difficult to find great martyrdoms at such a tender age of 7 and 9 which is incomparable.
Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal of the college while welcoming the guests said that being a member of such a renowned institute of Sikhs, It is our foremost duty to commemorate our glorious past. The motive of organising such events is to preach and propagate the principles and teachings of Sikh religion. A new channel on Youtube by the name of Khalsa College Patiala web TV was also launched in which a single track ‘Asin han ethe aye subiya, Lai mamta khushboi’ was presented by Post Graduate Department of Music Vocal.
Surjit Singh Rakhra while paying tribute to the martyrs said that such events must be organised from time to time to make the young generations aware of sacrifices made by such martyrs.
Dr. Sarabjinder Singh said that Sikh history is full of martyrs who sacrificed their lives serving humanity in the name of God. Sacrifices were made for the sake of other’s religion as well.
While giving vote of thanks to all, Indermohan Singh Bajaj said that this institute has been contributing towards the overall enhancement of the personality of the students by making them excel academically and also to bind them with their rich cultural roots. Members of teaching and non-teaching staff were present there.
