Sikh Football Cup’s trials on 31-October and 1-November

The trials of ‘Sikh Football Cup’, dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th birth anniversary will be held in Bathinda on 31st October and 1st November at the Multinational Sports Stadium. This was disclosed by Khalsa Football Club President Harjit Singh Grewal, who reached the city today and interacted with sports lovers and the representatives of sports department.

Giving more information about the ‘Sikh Football Cup’, Grewal said that in this inter-district tournament, well-known players from the age of 14 to 21 years will participate. He said, “the main purpose of the Global Sikh Sports Federation is to promote popularize sports among Sikhs, including Sikh sports, in keeping with the highest Sikh principles. He said that under the FIFA rules these football cups would be held in all districts of the state from 23 November.

He said that the Khalsa FC affiliated to Punjab Football Association would conduct election trials in every district from October 29 to November 2 to select district level football teams. Subsequently, the state-level finals and closing ceremonies would be held on December 7 at S.A.S. Nagar.

Explaining the aims of the club, football promoter and sport enthusiast Grewal said that this unique kind of sports will also promote Punjabi culture and Sikh identity around the world. In addition, the tournament will also help young boys to overcome drugs and return to their sporting activities and players will be able to brighten their future by adopting the sport as a profession.

While highlighting the benefits the players would receive from Khalsa FC, he said that all the Kesdhari teams in the district would get sports kit, jerseys and track suits as well as the allowance. The winning team will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 5 lakh and the second winning team Rs 3 lakh. In addition, the coaches of these two teams will be honored with cash prizes of Rs 51,000 and Rs 31,000 respectively.

He said that all the football matches in the district would be on display of Sikh warlike art. He said that this Sikh Football Cup would be organized every year with the cooperation of Sports Department Punjab. He also said that the Khalsa FC would serve as a starting platform for football players so that they could negotiate with the big football clubs to try their luck. He informed that a mobile app has also been launched on Khalsa AC’s website.
