First ever IPSC Teachers’ conclave concludes at Punjab Public School

The first ever 2-day IPSC Teachers’ Conclave concluded at PPS here today. Dr Sumer Singh, an eminent educationist and Board Member of PPS presided over the closing ceremony. Arijit Ghosh, Vice President, Education Quality Foundation of India gave a talk on the topic “Role of data in a futuristic school”. It was followed by another session by Nisha Bhaskar, Director and Principal, Navayuga World School who further enlightened the delegates on fortifying their strength as teachers to be one credible point of learning for students in the class room.

Jyotsna Brar, Honorary Member, IPSC Trust and former Principal of Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun summed up the learning of the last two days. She said it was vital for teachers to look for infinite possibilities to educate themselves for a meaningful handling of students under their care. She said technology was an opportunity to enhance our learning exponentially. She said we should look upon technology as a natural progression of human evolution not as a stumbling block. She enumerated the dangers of being too prescriptive.

The chief guest Dr Sumer Singh gave away certificates and mementos to the delegates of participating schools. Dr Jagpreet Singh, Headmaster, PPS gave the chief guest the traditional fulkari and a memento. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sumer Singh reiterated the need to go for thematic learning which widens the scope of intellectual development. He said it is time this mode of learning was formalised at the school level. He advocated open curriculum across all subjects and said assessment parameters needed to change drastically. He also elaborated on the role being played by Dr Jagpreet Singh in the IPSC and said he was one of most impactful Heads of schools in India today. A record number of 90 teachers from 22 prestigious public schools of the country took part in the conclave.
