GNDU made history; signs MoUs with PAU,MRSPTU, SLIET to strengthen research culture

Guru Nanak Dev University, a Category one university today made history by signing three Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) together with Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University and Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, in a ceremony that took place in the office of Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. The series of collaborations were facilitated by the University industry linkage cell and Department of Food Sciences of the university, as part of UGC-STRIDE program for improving the Trans disciplinary research to strengthen research culture in higher educational institutes.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu said “Trans-disciplinary research is a team effort of investigators from different disciplines to create new conceptual, theoretical and methodological innovations that integrate and transcend beyond discipline-specific approaches to address a common problem. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a new scheme – ‘Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy’ (STRIDE). Broadly, STRIDE will provide support to research projects that are socially relevant, locally need-based, nationally important and globally significant. STRIDE shall support research capacity building as well as basic, applied and transformational action research that can contribute to the national interest. STRIDE shall support creation, development and integration of new ideas, concepts and practices for the public good and strengthening civil society”.

Prof. S S Behl, Dean Academic Affairs said that STRIDE scheme will strengthen research culture and innovation in higher education institutes and will help students and faculty to contribute towards India’s developing economy with collaborative research.

According to Dr. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Coordinator University-Industry linkage Programme “The GNDU is working closely with academic institutions in India towards helping them gain international quality benchmarks. We believe that this requires sustained and focused efforts and is always a Work In progress and goes on even after an institution has attained the Certificate of Excellence. We believe that these collaborations present a world of opportunities for universities to do great work in the future and we are happy to have been a catalyst in this process.”
