Department of Education of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, under Community engagement programmes initiated a Social Awareness Drive in senior secondary schools of District Fatehgarh Sahib. The drive has been launched with an objective of creating an awakening in the youth of the district on prevailing social evils of Drug Addiction, Cyber-crime, corruption, Girl Child safety and ill effects of social media. The other objectives of the drive also included personality development, life skill training of the school students along with the awareness generation related to cleanliness and maintenance of the surroundings. Further efforts will be made to cover local concerns, informed Dr Harneet Kaur Billing, Department Incharge. She said that the teacher-trainees visited Government Senior Secondary School, Randhawa last month to initiate their drive. Interactive sessions on Drug Addiction were carried out. Brainstorming was also done to hear the inner voices of the students on the themes. A pledge was taken by the students to stay away from any kind of intoxicant in their life. She stressed that the entrapment of youth in drug and alcohol abuse, as opposed to engagement in legitimate employment and educational opportunities, poses distinct barriers to the development of individuals and communities.
