The Punjab police came into action and issue standard operating procedures for its men deployed in the field in the wake of covid 19 pandemic outbreak and who are coming in contact with an infected person. One such case is of late ACP North of Ludhiana Anil Kohli, who tested positive for Covid 19 about 17 police officers of various ranks listed as his primary contacts and his family and a SHO , security staff, driver also tested positive.

As per advisory prepared by Dr Sandip Kumar Garg, SSP Sangrur,” if the result is Covid 19 positive, the police should be shifted immediately to the covid care centres, hospitals established by the government, as per the protocol laid down by the State health department. If a covid positive patient is asymptomatic, then he may be kept in the District quarantine facility also.

But when a police officer is a symptomatic primary contact or any other police officer with moderate or severe symptoms: Rapid Response Team (RRT) of the health department should be immediately called and he should be isolated and tested as per laid down by the government protocols.

If he is quarantined at home, then he should be instructed not meet any of the family members. He must stay in a separate room, use a separate washsoom, wear a mask all the time and all the family members should make sure that they don’t touch anything, which has touched by him.

The advisory also mentioned the do’s -don’t for the support staff, about the vehicle used  by the police personnel/ officer, about the driver and other related issues.

The new instructions make it mandatory that in case of any officer is found positive or is primary contact of a positive person, he or she must be “immediately home quarantined” wherever located. “If the home is not in that district, then the official concerned be shifted to district quarantine facility. The ADGP (Admin) has already instructed all the commissioners of police and ssp’s  to set up at least two district quarantine facilities in their district.
