National Youth Parliament organised at RGNUL

Patiala-Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab under the aegis of Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, GOI organized 14th National Youth Parliament (2017-2018) at its campus. Vijay Inder Singla, Cabinet Minister, Punjab was the Chief Guest on the occasion.  Rajan Attri, Under Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India; Professor (Dr.) Veer Singh, Former Director, Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Chandigarh and former Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR, Hyderabad; Varinderjit Singh Dhindsa, Chief Engineer (PWD, Punjab); Professor (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, RGNUL and Prof. (Dr.) G.I.S. Sandhu, Registrar, RGNUL were also present during the National Youth Parliament. The event was adjudged by Vijay Inder Singla, Rajan Attri, Professor Veer Singh.

Professor (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal, in his welcome address said, “The objective of the National Youth Parliament organized by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, is to familiarize the youth with the functioning of the Parliament.”

Singla, appreciated the performance of the students of RGNUL. He observed, “It is essential for the youth of India to know about the Parliamentary Procedure.” Singla remarked that the competition, National Youth Parliament, provided the young minds an appropriate platform to acquire knowledge about the proper functioning of the Parliament. He recounted his experience in the Parliament.He also focused on the importance of training young minds to become good parliamentarians. He exhorted the students to take interest in such competitions and to become competent Parliamentarians. “The Youth could thus become agent of change in the systems,” he said

National Youth Parliament organised at RGNUL

Rajan Attri congratulated RGNUL for qualifying for the National Rounds. 74 teams from all over India were competing for the finals. He eulogized the performance of the RGNULstudents. He spoke about the origin and objective of the National Youth Parliament. “It was started in 1997 to create awareness about the functioning of Parliament in the students,” he said. “Oath Ceremony, Debates on pressing issues, Question Hour – questions by Members of Parliament and answers by the Government of the day and business of the House were properly conducted by the students,” said Attri.

Professor (Dr.) Veer Singh also lauded the performance of the students. While making observations on the event, he emphasized on the importance discipline and dignified conduct in the Parliament. Students were given the Certificates to the participants. The gathering also took “Swachh Bharat” pledge on the occasion.  G.I.S. Sandhu, Registrar, RGNUL extended a vote of thanks.
