Ravneet Kaur IAS, after taking the reins of Punjabi University, as officiating Vice Chancellor has started taking reforms, in its day to day functioning.

On the first day of 2021, she formulated a five member committee to assess the workload of its non teaching staff, to streamline the functioning of the staff.

As per information, a five member team from the teaching faculty is constituted, to give a report in three weeks. The five member committee  comprises members from economics, pharmaceutical, school of applied management, school of law and school of management studies will work and assess the functioning, workload of the non teaching staff, of the Punjabi University, Patiala.

When contacted Ravneet Kaur confirmed that “a five member committee is formed to assess the workload of its non teaching staff. “

Clearing the air on the reason for taking all teaching faculty in the five member committee and not taking any non teaching staff officer as committee member, she said, “the committee members are a mixture of faculty from management, law, economics department. They are familiar with the HR, placements and other relevant sections of the organisation. If they want to take anyone’s help, the committee is free to take it from the non teaching staff also.’

When asked about the rumours prevalent in the campus about the shunting out and shifting of the staff to other newly established universities in Patiala, “she denied it and said till now no such proposal is mooted and out rightly rejected it and rested the rumours.”

Earlier the non teaching, class IV employees were in dilemma over the decision of the VC to constitute a committee. Rumours spread in the university that the authorities are doing this exercise to shift the extra non teaching employees of the Punjabi University, to the newly established Guru Nanak Dev  Open university and Sports university, Patiala.

When contacted Lt. Gen Jagbir Singh Cheema (retd.), vice chancellor of the sports university,  he confirmed that no such proposal, about adjustment of non teaching staff of Punjabi University Patiala, in his  university , is mooted by him. He said,’ we had already asked the govt to sanction our posts. But till date the state govt has not taken any decision on this, as it is already under process.’

Punjabi university is passing through a tough period. The university is unable to disburse the salaries of its staff, on time. As per reports, even the former vice chancellor Prof BS Ghumman resigned from the post, as he is facing the heat of non availability of funds from the state government. Punjabi University is already over staffed, with lots of employees adjusted in non teaching category, on the recommendations of politicians.
