World University Celebrates the Enduring Legacy of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar through Academic and Creative Engagement

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University organized a series of academic and co-curricular activities under the aegis of the SC/ST Cell in collaboration with the SED Cell to commemorate the enduring legacy and visionary contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The event aimed to promote critical engagement with the ideals of social justice, equality, and constitutional values upheld by the architect of the Indian Constitution.
The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries. Satnam Singh Kaler, Chairman of the Sikh Judicial Commission, attended as the Chief Guest and emphasized the importance of upholding justice, equality, and human dignity in present times. He appreciated the university’s initiative in sensitizing youth towards Ambedkar’s transformative vision. Adv. Ravinder Singh Sampla, Advocate at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, served as the Resource Person and delivered an insightful address highlighting Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions to legal thought, social reform, and democratic ideals. He urged students to internalize constitutional morality and work towards an inclusive society.
Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, in his remarks, underscored the relevance of Dr. Ambedkar’s teachings in shaping an equitable and progressive society. He commended the organizing cells for fostering academic dialogue and encouraging students to reflect on critical social issues through creative expression.
Dr. Sikander Singh, Dean Students Welfare, in his welcome address, highlighted that Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy is not merely of historical significance but a living framework for addressing contemporary social challenges. He emphasized that meaningful engagement with his ideas through academic and creative platforms enables students to develop critical consciousness and a commitment to social transformation.
The programme was convened by Dr. Suman Preet Kaur, who curated a wide range of competitions to encourage student participation and intellectual discourse. The activities included elocution, poster making, digital content creation, quiz, skit, and essay writing competitions. Students from various departments participated enthusiastically, reflecting a deep engagement with Ambedkar’s philosophy and its contemporary relevance.
Dr. Tejbir Singh, Registrar, lauded the efforts of the organizers and participants, stating that such initiatives strengthen the institutional commitment towards inclusivity, diversity, and constitutional values. He emphasized the role of educational institutions in nurturing socially responsible citizens.
The winners of various competitions were felicitated during the event, recognizing their creativity, critical thinking, and engagement with the themes inspired by Dr. Ambedkar’s life and work.
Dr. Harneet Billing, Head, Department of Education, proposed the vote of thanks and concluded the event on a note of inspiration and renewed commitment to uphold the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
