Today, a Supreme Court formed four member committee got a big jolt, when one of its member Bhupinder Singh Mann recuses himself from the committee and said that he will stand with the farmers, as a Kisan leader.
The step taken by the BKU leader Bhupinder Singh Mann, withdrawing from the SC four member panel, seems to an important development, before the Kisan unions and Union government scheduled meeting on January 15, 2021.
Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde suspended the implementation of the three farm laws until further orders on Tuesday and formed a four member committee, without any consultation with the unions to resolve the dispute.
The four members of the SC’s committee includes Ashok Gulati and Pramod Kumar Joshi, along with Anil Ghanwat of Shetkari Sangathana and Bhupinder Singh Mann, leader of one of the factions of the Bharatiya Kisan Union.
Farmer unions at a press conference January 12, 2021 rejected the committee appointed by the Supreme Court to help solve the farm law controversy, claiming all four members had supported the laws in the past.
The combined front of various farm unions, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, has declared that it will not appear before any committee, even though the Supreme Court has mandated that the first sitting of the panel should take place within 10 days.
