How to cope up with stress?Punjabi university CSE department organised lecture

During this Pandemic time, stress on people’s mind has become a bigger challenge. Taking steps in this direction, ACM Student Chapter of CSE Department, Punjabi University, Patiala organized a special lecture on Stress Management during COVID-19 here today. This lecture was organized in collaboration with Bhai Ghaniya Health Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala.

Distinguished speaker and neuropsychiatrist Dr. Arvind Sharma,  delivered this special lecture on stress management during Covid-19 pandemic. He talked about various steps to cope up with stress. Vice chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala Prof. Arvind, presided over the event. Prof Arvind emphasized that stress management is the need of hour today due to these difficult and challenging times.

Dr. Raman Maini, Convener of the event, told that in current scenario of life, we all are facing challenges of covid-19 pandemic and badly affected, in every walk of life. It has also affected our mental wellbeing. He said that, to protect every citizen from mental disorders and the associated consequences, there is urgent need to provide public mental health intervention before the covid-19 pause our life. Dr. Ragina Maini, Senior Medical Officer, Bhai Ghanyia Health center and Co-Convener of this lecture said that in today’s scenario of mental health problem, the right way is to consult a doctor.

Dr. Ragina said that consulting a psychiatrist is important to ensure good health of your mental condition.  During his special address Dr. Arvind Sharma told that 20% of global disease burden is attributed to mental disorder. These mental disorders are major concerns in adulthood, which includes health, education, employment, social interaction, violence, crime etc. In the present pandemic times, the delivery of public mental health interventions becomes even more important at individual level, community level and at national level and the need is to increase the extent of coverage.

Vice chancellor appreciated the initiatives taken by the CSE department ,Dr Raman Maini and Bhai Ghaniya Health Centre, Punjabi University Patiala and SMO Dr Regina for taking this initiative of organising this talk on stress management, which is the need of the hour.

He said that capacity building session like this for all stakeholders in education sector will help to spread the message to whole society. Dr. B.S. Sandhu, Dean Academic, Punjabi University, Patiala appreciated  the department of CSE and Health Centre for organising this event and motivated the students to keep on organizing such events. Dr. G.S. Batra, Dean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala proposed vote of thanks and expressed his happiness for the fabulous work being done by University Health Center to serve the society in these times.

Dr. Jasvir Singh, Dr. Brahamleen Sidhu and Er. Sumandeep Kaur, faculty coordinators of the ACM chapter thanked Dr. Arvind Sharma for such a thoughtful lecture and all the guests for joining the event.  Student Coordinators of the event Gorisha, Jatin, Tanvi and Rubbal organized the event very well and assured the participants that ACM Chapter will keep on organizing such events in future also.
