Medical Dental Teachers apprehend drastic cut in salary with new pay scales

There is strong apprehension and resentment among the faculty working in Punjab Government medical and dental colleges that implementation of the Sixth Punjab Pay Commission report is going to result in drastic cut in their salaries instead of any financial benefits if the pay commission recommendations are implemented as such in case of medical and dental teachers which has decreased the non practice allowance (NPA) from 25 to 20 percent of the basic pay along with dissociation of NPA from basic pay.
In the present form, NPA is considered as a part of the basic pay for calculation of other allowances including dearness and house rent allowances.
The executive body of the Patiala Unit of Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association has decided to oppose tooth and nail of any such financial loss to the faculty and has urged the Chief Minister Punjab Capt Amrinder Singh to personally intervene to undo injustice to the medical and dental teachers and fix the new pay of the government doctors by applying the 2.57 formula as in case of employees of all other cadres under Punjab Government.

In a joint press release, Dr DS Bhullar president, Dr Darshanjit Singh Walia General Secretary and Dr Preetinder Singh Chahal Secretary Financial of the association said that NPA is a misnomer and should be substituted as Compensatory Pay and should be considered as a part of the basic pay as earlier.
We also demand from Chief Minister Punjab to fulfil two of the long pending demands of the medical and dental teachers which are time bound promotion/ re-designation and enhancement in the retirement age of the faculty to 65 years at par with their counterparts throughout in the country.
It was also decided in the meeting to send a memorandum of the demands signed by all faculty members directly to the Chief Minister with appeal to fulfil and announce the same on National Doctors Day (1st July) as a reward and honour for the day and night tireless and hard duties by government doctors for the last two years in the Covid Pandemic.
