Saini’s arrest fiasco; Punjab cabinet minister demands removal of 3 heads

After the high court granted bail to ex-director general of police Punjab Sumedh Saini, just within 24 hours after he was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau, senior congress leader and Punjab Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has demanded removal of Advocate General Atul Nanda, Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal and Chief Director Vigilance BK Uppal over ex-DGP Sumedh Singh Saini’s arrest fiasco.
The court vide order dated October 11, 2018, had directed the issuance of seven-day advance notice to Saini in case the police or vigilance wants to take action against him.

The Bench ruled his arrest was in violation of earlier orders dated October 11, 2018, September 23, 2020 and anticipatory bail order dated August 12.
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested the former DGP Punjab Sumedh Singh Saini in a case u/s 409, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120-B IPC and 7(A)(B)(C) and 7-A, 13(1) r/w 13(2) Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 registered on 17/09/2020 at Police Station,VB, FS-, Punjab at Mohali. He was produced in the local CJM court of SAS Nagar on Tuesday to get his remand. But Saini’s counsel approached high court.
