Punjab police has seen tremendous response in its recruitment drive

Punjab Chief Minister on March 20, 2021 had announced that the Punjab Government will be recruiting 10,000 police officials, of which 33% will be women, at the level of Sub-Inspectors, Head Constables and Constables in different cadres, to strengthen the Police deployment at cutting edge level and ensure effective policing. The cadres to which recruitment is being made include District, Armed, Investigation, Intelligence and Technical Support Services.
After the announcement and beginning of the recruitment process, Punjab police has seen a huge response. For the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors and Head Constables the minimum qualification was kept Bachelors degree and for the post of Constable an educational qualification was 10+2 , along with physical measurement parameters for all posts.
For Head Constables (Investigation cadre), 75,544 applicants who have applied for 787 vacancies, followed by exams for Constables (District & Armed cadres), slated for September 25-26, with a whopping 4,70,775 candidates having applied for filling up 4,358 vacancies.
The Punjab Police mega recruitment drive is being conducted through 6 Recruitment Boards, each constituted under an ADGP rank officer.
So far, written test for the posts of Sub-Inspectors (District, Armed, Intelligence & Investigation cadres) and Constables of the Intelligence and Investigation cadre had been conducted successfully, while the Written Tests for Head Constables of Investigation Cadre are going on and will conclude on 19th September, 2021.
Among the 1,10,524 candidates who had applied for the 560 Sub-Inspector vacancies, around 7,589 candidates were graduates in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software engineering, etc. and 1,714 candidates were post-graduates. 80,826 male candidates and 29,698 female candidates had applied for the recruitment to these posts.
The application forms for Constables (Intelligence & Investigation cadres) went Live from 26 July-28 August, 2021. A total of 53,632 candidates applied for the written test that was held from 7-10 September, 2021 for filling up 1,156 vacancies. Among these, 42,276 candidates are male while 11,356 candidates are female. Further, around 5,055 candidates are graduates in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software engineering, etc. and 1,853 candidates are post-graduates.
The application forms for Constables (District & Armed cadres) were Live from 16 July-22 August, 2021. A total of 4,70,775 candidates applied for the written test, of which around 3,68,819 male candidates and 1,01,956 female candidates registered for the recruitment. Among these, 77,938 candidates (around 15%) possess Graduation or other similar qualifications even when the minimum eligibility is of 10+2 level. Around 2648 candidates are ITI and Diploma holders, 1135 are Engineering Graduates and 1510 are candidates with Post Graduate qualifications.
The application forms for Head Constables (Investigation cadre) were Live from 4-31 August, 2021 for filling up 787 vacancies. A total of 75,544 candidates applied for the written test to be conducted from 12-19 September, 2021, out of which the majority candidates belonged to B.A/B.Com/B.Sc graduation backgrounds (73%). Around 58,427 male candidates and 17,117 female candidates registered for the recruitment.
In addition to these posts, the process of applying for 267 Sub Inspectors and 2340 constables in Technical Support Services cadre is going on. The last date for applying is September 29,2021 by 23:59:59 pm
Punjab police had organized Special Run and Training in Long Jump and High Jump in all the district Police Lines and Training Centres for giving free coaching for various physical trial events, to the aspirants. DGP Dinkar Gupta had ordered the opening of Public Spaces, Public Parks, Stadia and Police Lines grounds for the practice/preparation. Even the Police had also provide trained manpower, including coaches and required sports equipment including high jump stand/mattresses and long jump infrastructure for the practice of candidates.
Gurpreet Kaur Deo, Chairperson of the Central Recruitment Board for Constables, had said that strict protocols have been laid down for securing the areas outside the Test Centres as well as within the venues, and multiple rounds of physical frisking will be carried out, apart from use of various types of electronic & digital gadgets, etc.
