Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) sent a memorandum was sent  to the Governor of Punjab through Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar to demand farmers be compensated to the tune of Rs 500 per quintal for low wheat yields.

Rupnagar Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM)Gurwinder Singh Johal,  received the memorandum from Akali leaders and workers led by District President Gurinder Singh Gogi.

Through the memorandum, the Akali Dal delegation demanded that today every section of the people in Punjab including farmers, manufacturers, shopkeepers, traders and domestic consumers were facing severe power cuts. But the government is not keen on tackling the crisis. He demanded from the Governor that in view of the paddy season, the government should be severely reprimanded in this regard.

The SAD demanded that due to the sudden rise in heat in March, the wheat yield has come down drastically which has resulted in huge economic loss to the farmers but the government has not yet declared it as a natural calamity nor sent  case for compensation to the central government..SAD demanded that a bonus of Rs.500 per quintal should be given to the farmers.

SAD also drew the attention of the governor of Punjab to the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. It alleged that murders, lootings and robberies are on the rise in the state but instead of fulfilling its responsibility, the state government is engaged in retaliatory actions against its political opponents using unconstitutional and illegal means. The party demanded that the government should be severely reprimanded in this regard and a report on law and order should be sought from the Home Minister of Punjab.

SAD also demanded that in view of the skyrocketing prices of oil, diesel, petrol and cooking gas, the Punjab government should reduce its taxes and put pressure on the union government to reduce taxes.

SAD maintained that the knowledge sharing agreement signed  by the Punjab government with the Delhi government on April 26, 2022 was illegal and unconstitutional which would hurt the self esteem of the Punjabis whereas Punjabis are very disappointed and concerned.

SAD said that with this agreement, Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal has indirectly taken control of the Punjab government. Therefore, governor should  severely reprimand the Punjab Government and ask it to refrain from such acts.
