Good news for Thalassemia patients -AIIMS Bathinda started advanced Immuno-hematology lab

Department of Transfusion Medicine of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bathinda started an advanced Immuno-hematology services lab on the occasion of International Thalassemia Day and Mother’s Day, in order to provide best services to the Thalassemia patients, pregnant females visiting the OPD and other patients like cancer and those in whom red cell survival is shortened and require repeated blood Transfusions.It was inaugurated by Director Prof (Dr) D. K. Singh in the presence of Dean Academics Prof(Dr) Satish Gupta.

The Services will benefit patients in detecting any antibodies that the patients have acquired through external stimulus or have developed against their own red cells. An awareness campaign was also done by the Department of Transfusion Medicine in association with Department of Pediatrics and Obstetrics andGynecologyfor Thalassemia patients and their families regarding early detection and regular transfusions with proper treatment.
