Patiala Jail official alertness helps them to recover large number of prohibited items

An alertness of a warder Navsharan Singh helps the authorities of Central Jail Patiala to recover 27 mobile phones, 2 adapter, 42 data cables, 375 tobacco, 1 sim card, 95 gm sulpha, 1 cigarette pack and arrest of one Surjit Singh, a resident of Patiala.
As per available information on the intervening night of September 15-16 around 4-5 persons came from Phulkian Enclave locality and start throwing the packets inside the jail premises at 11:30 pm. An alert newly recruited warder (constable) of Patiala Central jail, who was on duty near the jail wall Phulkian Enclave side, countered them. By the time they managed to throw 24 packets inside the jail.
Navsharan was able to hold one of the accused Surjit Singh but remaining accused managed to escape. Immediately he informed the higher officials of Central Jail, Patiala who immediately called the Punjab police and handed over the accused to them. The jail officials also started the search operation and they confiscated 24 packets containing the prohibited items-27 mobile phones, 2 adapter, 42 data cables, 375 tobacco, 1 sim card, 95 gm sulpha, 1 cigarette pack.
Out of these 27 mobiles, 26 are new Key pad mobile phones and 1 smart phone.
As per available information, this is for the third time in recent months that the jail officials have recovered items thrown from the same location. Earlier the jail officials had recovered 33 sims out of which around 2 dozen sims were newly purchased.
A jail official on the condition of anonymity said “this all became possible due to the alertness, precautionary steps taken by the jail staff. We are investigating from inside the jail and Patiala police is investigating from outside the jail and soon be able to break this nexus.”
As per the available information the arrested accused Surjit Singh remained lodged in the Central Jail Patiala and knows the inside area very well and that’s why the accused thrown the packets on that particular areas.

When contacted the DSP City 2, Patiala Jaswinder Singh, he said “ we are in a process of lodging the FIR and no further arrest has been made.”
