Gangsters killed in high security area of a Punjab’s jail

Two gangsters identified as Mandeep Singh alias Toofan and Mohan Singh alias Manmohan Singh   were killed in a clash in Goindwal jail in Tarn Taran on Sunday. In the fighting a third jail inmate identified as Keshav was critically injured in the clash.

Mandeep Singh alias Toofan was nabbed by the anti-gangster task force (AGTF) in September last year. He was also wanted in the killing of another notorious gangster Ranbir Singh alias Rana Kandowalia in a hospital in Amritsar in August 2021.

As per initial reports both were connected with Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s killing last year. Mandeep Singh Toofan was one of the most wanted gangsters in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case as he provided shelter to the shooters who killed the Punjabi singer on May 29,2022. Toofan provided shelter to those shooters before the murder of Moosewala.

Notably, Toofan’s involvement in the case came to light when some of the arrested shooters revealed his name during the interrogation. Another accused in Sidhu Moosewala murder Mohan Singh alias Manmohan who was also killed in today’s bloody fight , it was learnt that he had done recce of Moosewala during the Assembly poll last year.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran, Gurmeet Singh Chuhan, IPS  informed the media that all of them were lodged in an isolated zone in a high-security area in the Goindwal Jail in Tarn Taran district. Today, in the afternoon when they were set free for some time as per jail manual, they had a scuffle resulting in serious injuries to Toofan and Mohna who later died on way to the hospital.
