Rs 200 crore losses to PSPCL; fix responsibility, says Chandumajra

Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra, a senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal and former MLA, has expressed concern over the financial burden of Rs 200 crore that has been put on PSPCL due to the incompetence of the state government. He has stated that the power corporation has suffered the loss, and demanded that responsibility should be fixed for the same.
Chandumajra said officials should be held accountable for adding to the financial burden of the PSPCL.
Chandumajra raised the question whether it was wrong on the part of the PSPCL to withhold the payments of the thermal plants, as has been stated in various court judgments or did the present government failed to defend the case in the court?
Chandumajra also criticized the opposition parties for politicizing the issue of power purchase agreements (PPA) and ignoring the interests of Punjab. He emphasized that PPAs were legal documents that were based on standard biding documents (SBD) brought out by the union government. He said even in Punjab the PPAs were a cut copy paste of these standard documents and not even a single coma was added to the PPAs. All others states had also signed the same documents to meet their energy requirements. But nowhere else did we hear anything against the PPAs.
He said that the opposition parties had been trying find faults with the PPAs, but they have not succeeded in this as the PPAs are flawless. All that is being said to criticize the PPAs is only to mislead the people, because it was only SAD which had made the state power surplus and ensures that electricity was supplied to PSPCL at Rs 3 per unit from the private thermal power plants.
However, political parties have mislead the people of the state and played politics on the issue. He said if PPAs in Punjab were faulty then all such agreements including that signed with NTPC and by all other states in the country were also faulty and should be scrapped simultaneously.
