Punjab’s chief engineer finds place in BBMB Chairman’s final race

The Ministry of Power has sought applications under revised eligibility criteria for the post of Chairman, Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), which falls vacant on July 1,2023.
In February 2022, the central government notified changed rules that specifying technical qualifications of the post of Chairman as well as the Member (Power) and Member (Irrigation) in the BBMB.
As per available information, Dr. Harinder Pal Singh Bedi, Chief Engineer/Managing Director Punjab Water Resources Management & Development Corporation Ltd., Water Resources Department, Punjab govt is amongst the three finalists for the post of BBMB, Chairman, after the changed rules. His name is strongly recommended by the principal secretary of the department Krishan Kumar and by the state govt.
As per sources, the Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted for the purpose of selection of suitable candidate for appointment to the post of Chairman, BBMB has invited Dr. Harinder Pal Singh Bedi for personal interaction at New Delhi on June 15,2023 and after the meeting he has been shortlisted as finalist. The Search-cum-Selection Committee has shortlisted three candidates and forwarded the same to Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which appoints several top posts within the Government of India.
Now, all eyes are on prime minister Narendra Modi, who heads the ACC along with the Minister of Home Affairs.

He has done his doctorate in Interpretation of Indus Water Treaty and International Riparian Law) from Chandigarh University SAS Nagar Mohali, in December 2022. He was Gold medalist in B.Tech Civil Engineering from prestigious institute NIT, Jalandhar . He is also the topper of the PPSC’s 1999 batch.
He has an experience of two years from 1997-1999 for working at a dam site as an Engineer in British Columbia, Surrey Canada, with Foundation Group of companies. He is also involved in laying the foundation of Nathpa Dam of Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation Dam at Bhaba Nagar Kinnour Himachal Pradesh.
