Omnipresent CM Mann on May 1: In Court, Cabinet, and Assembly Session

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to remain busy on May 1, attending multiple key engagements-from Court to Cabinet to Assembly

Court Appearance

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Rajinder Singh Nagpal’s court in Punjab’s Mansa on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the repeated non-appearance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in an ongoing defamation case against him [Nazar Singh Manshahia v. Bhagwant Maan and Ors.]. The court said if CM Mann does not appear in person at the next hearing scheduled for May 1, his bail will be cancelled and strict legal measures will be taken against him.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann last appeared in court on October 20, 2022, and got bail in the case after furnishing bail bonds. The case was filed in 2019, when present CM Bhagwant Mann was an MP.

As per available information, this time an application was filed on behalf of the chief minister for exemption from personal appearance, which was granted for the day and the matter was adjourned to May 1

Cabinet Meeting

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has convened a cabinet meeting on May 1, 2026, at 9:30 AM at his residence in Chandigarh, shortly before the special Vidhan Sabha session scheduled for the same day.

Vidhan Sabha Session

The Punjab government has also convene a special session of the Vidhan Sabha on May 1.

Punjab govt spokesperson said “ the special session on May 1 is convened to pay homage to the working class of the state on Labour Day.”

Taking to X, Mann said, “In a significant decision taken by the Punjab Cabinet, it has been decided to convene a special session of the Legislative Assembly on May 1, on the occasion of Labour Day. This one-day session will be dedicated to the hardworking labourers and artisans who make a vital contribution to the country’s social and economic development.”
