Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, has attained a significant milestone by receiving accreditation with a Grade of B++ from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In a rigorous evaluation process, MRSPTU submitted 70% of its assessment to NAAC, with the remaining 30% evaluated by the NAAC peer review committee.
A peer team from NAAC conducted the assessment from March 15th to 17th, 2023, evaluating MRSPTU across various criteria. The university’s consistent excellence was evident in key areas, reflecting comprehensive growth across the institution. These parameters encompassed Curricular Aspects, Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation, Research, Innovation, and Extensions, Infrastructure and Learning Resources, Student Support and Progression, Governance, Leadership, and Management, as well as Institutional Values & Best Practices.
MRSPTU’s accomplishment places it among the select group of Technical Institutes in North India during the first cycle of accreditation.
Professor Buta Singh Sidhu, Vice-Chancellor of MRSPTU, expressed his gratitude to the NAAC peer team for their meticulous data review and valuable recommendations. He also commended the university’s faculty, staff, and stakeholders for their substantial contributions to this noteworthy achievement. Professor Sidhu particularly acknowledged the dedicated team at the University’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Director Dr. Ashish Baldi, a recipient of the National Teachers’ Award, for their relentless efforts and leadership in their respective domains.
The VC also stated that NAAC accreditation has provided a deeper understanding of our strength, weakness, opportunities and challenges and will lead the university ecosystem for future growth.
Dr. Ashish Baldi highlighted several key performance indicators that contributed to MRSPTU’s high standing, including Institutional distinctiveness, Best practices, Institutional values and social responsibilities, Internal quality assurance system, Feedback system, Students diversity, Teaching-learning process, Innovation ecosystem, Consultancy, Physical facilities, and Student activities.
“For a young MRSPTU, it is just the beginning of a long journey,” remarked Dr. Baldi. He emphasized the university’s commitment to maintaining existing standards while diligently working on the suggestions provided by the peer team to enhance its scores.

In today’s higher education landscape, NAAC accreditation has become a prerequisite for ensuring quality in educational institutions. As per UGC guidelines, all universities and colleges are expected to obtain NAAC accreditation. The process involves the submission of self-study reports by the institution, followed by an assessment by a peer team from NAAC, resulting in the award of relevant grading.
