DC declares Local Holiday in the district on September 22,2023 ; issues official orders

The deputy commissioner Gurdaspur has declared a holiday in Gurdaspur districts for Friday, September 22,2023 in connection with the celebrations wedding anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, popularly known as “Babe Da Viah”, which is going to celebrate on September 22 in the industrial town Batala in Gurdaspur district.
All government offices and non-government offices, educational institutions of the Punjab government in district Gurdaspur remain close.
The Deputy Commissioner while issuing this order has also made it clear that on this day the banks will remain open as usual, the examinations being conducted by the Board/University will be as before.
It is to be noted that Guru Nanak Dev was married to Mata Sulakhni, daughter of Mul Chand, a Chona Khatri of Batala in 1487 at Batala. The ceremonies were a grand affair as Sulakhni was daughter of a revenue official. However, Guru Nanak Dev refused to follow the marriage rituals dictated by Brahmin of that era. He and Sulakhni took four rounds instead of the seven prescribed around the sacred fire.
