Taking another step, the district administration has decided to use drones to closely monitor incidents of stubble fires in the fields. Sharing the details, Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, Sakshi Sawhney stated that drones will be deployed in the hot spot areas of stubble burning within the district. This will enable the immediate response of district administration teams to any field where there is a possibility of a fire or a fire has been set.
During a meeting with district officials to assess stubble burning cases and the paddy procurement process in Patiala district, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that civil administration and police teams are regularly visiting fields at the village level, and farmers are responding positively. She also mentioned that drones have been employed today in Patran and Ghanour areas to survey fields from the sky in different villages. Immediate action was taken wherever a fire incident was detected.
In response to the Deputy Commissioner’s inquiry during the meeting, SDMs and DSPs confirmed that their teams are patrolling the fields. Red entries are being recorded in the revenue records of stubble-burning offenders, and environmental costs are being levied. Additionally, farmers are being encouraged during Mandi visits to abstain from stubble burning and are advised to use alternatives like Super Seeder, Happy Seeder, and Surface Seeder when sowing wheat.

The Deputy Commissioner urged farmers not to set paddy straw and other crop residues on fire, citing the teachings of our religious texts that emphasize the importance of conserving air, water, and soil.
