A Revolutionary Green Nanotechnology by IIT Ropar for Lake and Pond Rejuvenation

IIT Ropar is one of the premiers Institute known for technology leaders for water and agriculture sector. IIT Ropar has developed a landmark green technology for rejuvenation of lake and ponds. This technology has recently demonstrated as pilot in a sewerage pond (0.75 acres) near IIT Ropar.
The nanobubble generators were installed at Phool Kala village near IIT Ropar supported by Department of water supply and sanitation (DWSS). Three immediate effects were noticed: (i) 80-85% reduction in biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) levels; (ii) removal of odors; (iii) removal of Algal bloom.
This is technology can be wonder for the Govt of India initiative like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana- Har Khet Ko Pani, Jal Jeevan mission, Swachh Bharat mission, Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
This project was executed by IIT Ropar incubated startup Nanokriti Technology which is also a spinoff company of Technology Innovation Foundation, IIT Ropar set up Department of science and Technology. Introducing high concentrations of nanobubbles into the water increases the oxygen levels in the water, particularly in the deeper layers where oxygen is often limited, as a result, the growth of algae is limited, and improved the water quality. One significant advantage of nanobubble technology is that it provides these benefits without the need of chemical treatments. This makes it an eco-friendly and sustainable approach to pond management.
A Revolutionary Green Nanotechnology by IIT Ropar for Lake and Pond Rejuvenation. Lakes often experience temperature stratification, where layers of different temperature and oxygen levels form. Nanobubble prevents stratification by diffusing throughout the water body. Aeration with nanobubbles can promote the breakdown of organic matter, improving water clarity and reducing the potential for harmful algal blooms. Also, offers BOD & COD reduction.
