CM Punjab son Raninder Singh is 1st Indian elected as ISSF Vice President

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday congratulated his son and former shooter Raninder Singh for making the nation country proud by becoming the first Indian to be elected as one of the four vice presidents of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
The election, which took place during the ISSF General Assembly convened in Munichm was hailed by the Chief Minister “as a matter of honour and pride for Punjabis, especially for the shooting fraternity. Raninder had brought laurels for India through his elevation to the coveted post, said Captain Amarinder Singh.
Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi also hailed the rare accomplishment of Raninder Singh, saying he had done the entire nation proud.
On Friday, Raninder Singh was awarded the ISSF diploma of honour gold medal at the general assembly. He was also presented with the diploma and medal by the outgoing longest serving president of the ISSF, Olegario Vazquez Rana.
Raninder Singh, who is also the president of National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), secured 161 votes in the election. The other three to be elected as Vice-Presidents are Kevin Kilty of Ireland (162 votes), USA’s Robert Mitchell (153 votes) and Republic of China’s Wang Yifu, who was re-elected with 146 votes.
Notably, Raninder Singh was elected as member of ISSF in 2014 by bagging 22 out of 25 votes. The former shooter was also re-elected as president of NRAI for a four-year term in Mohali last year.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has also congratulated his brother Randhir Singh for being re-elected as Member of Executive Board of Association of National Olympic Committee for a 4-year term, for the fifth consecutive time. Randhir Singh was also member of the Indian Olympic Committee (IOC) from 2001 to 2014.
