Central Trade Unions has written a letter to Nirmala Sitaraman Minister of Finance, Government of India to take cognizance of their long pending genuine demands
In a letter signed by Central Trade Unions urged “ We, the platform of Central Trade Unions draw your attention to the genuine demands of the officers’ and employees’ unions in the General Insurance companies in the interest of customers and the country. They have been demanding the merger of four Public Sector General Insurance companies (PSGICs) – National Insurance Company Limited, new India Assurance Company Limited Oriental Insurance Company Limited and United India Insurance Company Limited – into a single, unified entity to enable them to perform better and fulfil their social obligations.”
They further added that “these Public Sector companies should not be privatised as they fall under strategic sector and are of extreme importance for the common man. We stand with the demand that the GST on premium and benefit, medical insurance and also that on agriculture be withdrawn, as because it is deterrent to this socially essential segment of business, rather more people can be included under social security net through medical insurance.”
The unions also demanded the “wage revision for the workforce in General Insurance companies as it is due from 1st August 2022, whereas in all other financial sectors it is concluded and process of implementation already initiated. There has been significant improvement in the PSGICs in the years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 despite all odds. They deserve good settlement. There are 20,000 vacant posts in PSGICs, which impacts the business of the companies and extreme pressures on workforce. The recruitment should be taken up at the earliest.”
“We also urge you to form a regulatory authority to oversee hospitals and TPAs to curb irregularities being reported in the interest of PSGIC policy holders and citizens in general. We urge you to take cognizance of the issues raised at the earliest in the interest of public sector companies, its workforce and to the advantage of common people” added the leaders of the unions.
